The mean max temp currently stands at 23.49C (July 2013 entire month 24.46C)

I guess the NE'ly flow suppressed the inland sea breezes in Dorset - that's quite a high max for so near the south coast!

Slightly lower screen max than Dorchester at 28.9°C here today, also the highest of 2014 to date after 28.3°C yesterday. Aspirated maxima yesterday 28.0°C and today 28.7°C.

Yes Stephen, we are on the southern edge of Dorchester, only six miles 'as the crow flies' from the coast. The gentle NE'ly land breeze was sufficiently strong (generally 10 - 15mph, max gust 18mph) to prevent the sea breeze and sudden wind veer to SW from reaching here until nearly 5pm BST with the peak temperature of 29.6C reached only an hour earlier.

Usually the sea breeze arrives here between 1pm and 2pm with a slight drop or maintained temperature through the afternoon period. Had this happened yesterday our max would have been between 27C and 28C

Today we had 28.9C here in Farnborough, equalling Thursday 24th as the joint warmest day of the year so far.

For July so far, the mean max + min is 24.8, 13.7
Mean = 19.3 , around 1.7 higher than the LTA

Not as hot as last July which had a mean max/min of 26.0, 14.1 and an extreme of 32.3

This is the 8th consecutive warmer than average month!
