Something I'm surprised that there's been no previous comment on: today's remarkably high dew points.

Here, the dew point reached 21.0 °C at 1400 today, and was not much lower all morning. This is the highest dew point at any hourly observation at this site since 3 August 2004, and is all the more surprising after a month in which, until today, the air temperature itself has reached 21 °C on only one day!

Much cooler and fresher this evening, with the dew point down 10 degC on this afternoon.

I posted something on uk.sci.weather to the effect that I had measured a dewpoint of 20°C with a whirling psychrometer in the early afternoon. The dry-bulb was 25°C. I don't do these measurements regularly but I can't recall such a high figure in the past, going back a good 20 years.

The highest hourly dew-point I logged here was 19.0C at 14.00z Thursday which is attained most years, so nothing remarkable there.

Over recent years the highest hourly dew-point was 22.0C the hours 19-2100z on 1/7/2009.
