Just a couple of millimetres to go.

The remarkable winter has almost led to another record for me. Writing just a few minutes before midnight on 8th February I have recorded 503mm ( virtually from the 12th December) for the winter so far. This is an unprecedented value over so short a period of less than two months for a station that is just 15 miles from London. I have just 2mm to go to register the wettest winter in a local record that goes back to the 1870s. The previous wettest was 1914/15. With several more storm systems likely over the next week it is not unreasonable to suggest that 600mm will be attained by the end of February. I have already by the 7th Feb. exceeded my monthly average rainfall.
I have also recorded yet another winter day with thunder heard making it 7 days so far, more than in recent summers.
