Another day of unbroken sunshine making it the third such day this month so far with 68% of the total possible having shone. Yesterday (Sunday 7th) was particularly lovely with insects still flying around and the odd red admiral butterfly too and 4 hours of unbroken sunshine during the afternoon.

It has been a cold start to the month with 1 air frost and 4 grass frosts:

1st - 8th
Mean minimum = 2.2°C
Mean maximum = 9.2°C
Rainfall = 5.1 mm
Sunshine = 33.6 hours.

December sunshine:
2013 = 84.2 hours
2012 = 82.6 hours
2011 = 65 hours (estimated as data incomplete)
2010 = 91.4 hours
2009 = 98.7 hours
2008 = 112.7 hours
2007 = 70.0 hours
2006 = 65.0 hours.

Not quite as sunny here Nick but not too bad over the weekend.
Now though there are far more fronts on track through the UK so more cloudy.

And it has indeed turned out to be a sunny December.

Sunshine total (1st - 30th) now stands at 102.9 hours.

The past four days have seen unbroken sunshine amounting to 30 hours, an average of 7.5 hours a day which is around 93% of the total possible.

This is the sunniest December since 2008 (112.7 hours).
