Contrasting weather in two Februaries

Postby greg_gruner » 2015 Feb 07, 15:31

Comparing the first week of February this year with last year:

1-7 Feb

2014 2015
Mean Max: 9.0C 4.1C
Mean Min: 4.2C -1.1C
Mean 6.6C 1.5C
Rainfall 30.7mm 1.6mm

Last February had no air frost in the entire month. This February, in the first 7 days, only one day has NOT had an air frost!
I will compare the whole months when this Feb ends. Forecast looks like dominant high pressure, so dry but not as cold.
I'm sure the residents of the Somerset Levels, and of western coastal regions, are glad of no repeat of last year!

You can say that again Greg.

1st to 12th Feb
rain 96.9mm

rain 3.6 mm

average max 9.4C, average min 4.3C
no air frosts

average max 6.9C, average min 0.8C
5 air frosts

After 9 consecutive dry days it looks like the rain will return tomorrow, although I am not expecting the Feb total to get anywhere near the
174.4 mm of 2014.
