A wet May?

Postby Len Wood » 2015 May 04, 18:32

Only 4 days gone and already 22.9 mm here in Wembury.

The forecasts indicates a prevalence of low pressure so it could be a wet and windy May.

This compares with my April total of 19.4 mm. Only 30% of average.
April was an excellently sunny month which easily beat the solar generated by my panels in April 2012.

My monthly total here in Stornoway town (1st-11th) is already passed 100% of average at 61.2mm so far - with nearly 1 inch in past 24hrs and a southerly gale as well - not very springlike at all!

No so here in Scotland Len (except for a thin sliver along the Moray Firth coast)

See Roger's stats at: http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/CURR.html for more details...

We've seen rainfall percentages of 140-180% widely (200%+ in Orkney) and there's more rain on the way in the closing few days...

It's also been remarkably dull - with hardly over 50% of average sunshine in places like Prestwick...

It may also be the coldest since 1996, with anomalies of -1.5C to -2.0C in the central Highlands... let's wait & see until the month's end, , but overall another pretty awful month in a long run of poor months here in W Scotland since last autumn...
