Noctilucent clouds 1st/2nd July 2012

Postby Eddy Graham » 2012 Jul 20, 12:01

Hello Everyone

I want to report a fine display of noctilucent clouds that I viewed from the Sleat peninsula on the Isle of Skye at midnight on 1st/2nd July last.

I'm new to the COL forum, so not sure yet how to upload photos (if possible?), but you can see a few example pics on my regular blog at:
https://communities.uhi.ac.uk/le02eg/weblog/
All photos were taken looking northwest. Sorry for the grainy quality of some, that is due to the handycam trying to adjust for the darkness.

The blue colour of the clouds was quite remarkable; also their wavy pattern tentatively suggested they were being created by an atmospheric wave over the Harris hills far to the NW... (what a shame I didn't think of making a time lapse movie!) ... it's the first time I have seen noctilucent clouds since being on a transatlantic flight in June 1996.

sincerely
Eddie Graham, Stornoway.

Welcome Eddy, nice photos.

To upload photos to the forum the 1st thing is to reduce the image size to <600 pixels wide. I find about 480 pixels is best. Then click upload attachment, then browse, select the file & click add the file.

Best wishes from a very wet Stornoway today (our first "proper" rainy day since 13 May, so few are complaining)
