The Society announces its new Chief Executive

We are delighted to announce that Chris Holcroft has been appointed the new Chief Executive of the Royal Meteorological Society. Chris will join the Society from the Association for Geographic Information (AGI), where he has been Chief Executive since 2007.

Chris is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a Chartered Geographer and a Member of the Institute of Directors. Both his undergraduate and post-graduate studies were at the London School of Economics. Before joining AGI he has worked in a variety of technical, development and product roles for a number of organisations including Cadcorp Ltd, SSI solutions, Autodesk, Informatix and the Ordnance Survey.

Chris has worked closely with the meteorological community, and in particular he has worked with and alongside of the Public Weather Service Customer Group in helping to establish the structure underpinning the Government’s new Data Strategy Board. He has also been actively involved with the implementation of the EU’s INSPIRE directive on the infrastructure, frameworks and standards for spatial data.

Chris was appointed from a very strong field of applications and will begin at the Society on 15 October. The current Chief Executive, Paul Hardaker, leaves the Society at the end of August. From September until Chris is in post, Dr Liz Bentley, the Head of theWeather Club and the Society’s Director of Weather and Climate, will be acting Chief Executive.
