Wettest month in local area.

My final tally for January 2014 rainfall is 235mm. The Met Office station at Kenley is about 2 miles as the crow flies from my location and they also totalled 235mm for the month. This is not only my wettest January by far but also the wettest of any month in my records (1979). I have access to records for nearby stations going back to the Victorian times and there has not been a wetter month with the previous highest total being 231mm in September 1968. Nor has there been a wetter December- January with my total 434mm.
The next significant rainfall record will be the wettest winter currently held locally by 1914/15 at just over 500mm. My current tally as of 3rd February is 435mm so there is every chance that this will be broken given the continuing volatile state of the atmosphere.Certainly though the 1914/15 winter is the one winter of a comparable magnitude.

Was the wettest Jan here too.
My record only began in 1985 though.
My total was 198.7 mm.

Plymouth Mt Batten's total was 193.6 mm
The Plymouth record goes back to 1874, but only since 1921 at Mt Batten.

The record was not broken for Plymouth.
Here is the ranking
1. 1984 215 mm
2. 1988 212 mm
3. 1912 195 mm
4. 2014 194 mm
5. 1875 193 mm
