Why so wet?

I found this article very interesting:

A good comprehensive summary of the meteorological thinking behind the wet spell, covering the jet stream, La Nina, effects of warm water in the Western Pacific, Polar Night Jet, etc.
There is no simple answer as to why it has been so wet!

It seems we have had a strong zonal jet but in fact the N Hemisphere jet has had a big meander north over Alaska and down to near Florida. The thinking is that these meanders may persist for longer with a warmer Arctic...
