West Cornwall Gale statistics, still stormy.

At John Chappell's site near Land's End there have been 11 days so far this month when the wind has exceeded 60mph. It's virtually certain to be 12 days by this time tomorrow as a F9 is forecast for the Land's End peninsula & Scilly with mean speeds of 50-60mph in exposed spots. This severe weather is limited to the tip of Cornwall and a Scilly, big swell forecast to come with it http://magicseaweed.com/Sennen-Surf-Report/4/ Another 10m swell looking likely for Monday. Still pretty stormy down here. Still hopefully no repeat of the 105mph gust recorded on Scilly early in February for a few years!

Network Rail still have no date for re-opening the line into Penzance which was severely damaged on the Valentines Day storm. Some good photos here. http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.u ... innen.html
It seems all the repair effort is in Dawlish where the media are. It's led to the rail package deals to Penzance over Easter (traditionally the busiest week of the year for tourists by rail) to be cancelled. At least 1 large hotel which was fully booked for Easter is now completely empty.

22 days with hail in Penzance so far this year. My record for an entire year is 26 days in 2008 (records start 1991)
