Penzance - Warmest Day of 2014

Postby Graham Easterling » 2014 Jun 22, 15:45

Maximum of temperature of 24.0 today, after a fresher day yesterday when the max was just 19.6, the lowest max since 11th..

During the late morning some almost featureless cloud formed just inland from Marazion, lenticular in appearance, but was actually due to 2 gentle sea breezes, one from Hayle, one from Marazion, meeting & causing uplift in basically stable air. This dispersed, and the only cloud PM was patchy attractive cirrus.

A couple of weather orientated pictures @ The 1st showing cirrus over Pz harbour, the 2nd shows the seaward edge of a light SW sea breeze circulation off Perranuthnoe at 11:30ish. In Penzance basically no true sea breeze developed. However an easterly drift developed around 14:00, the origins of which were the N coast sea breeze, however by the time it reached Penzance the source of the air was largely down the spine of Cornwall, hence the high temperature.

Graham, not the warmest day of 2014 here. That was last Thursday when it reached 27.1°C due to a complete lack of any sea breeze.

The sea breeze for the last few days has maaged to keep the temperature down a little though occasionally it fails for an hour or two allowing the temperature to climb quickly. It reached 25.1°C today during a lull.

Third day of unbroken sunshine. Grass browning nicely.
