Another cold night - 24 August

Postby Stephen Burt » 2014 Aug 24, 09:57

My screen min this morning was 4.1°C, grass min -0.2°C, the second ground frost this week.

I had thought a much lower min was on the cards when the screen temperature at 20z yesterday was already down to 8°C, and the grass temp just 3°C, but a fitful SW breeze picked up late in the evening and prevented too much of a fall in temperature thereafter.

I see from the Met Office site this morning there was air frost in Northern Ireland this morning (quoted from Twitter feed):

"Last night's min temp of -1.9C at Katesbridge is a new August record for Northern Ireland. Beating -1.1C at Loughermore Forest in 1964."
