Wet Bank Holiday

Postby greg_gruner » 2014 Aug 25, 17:10

In terms of rainfall duration, today has been the highest since ... you guessed it.... the last Bank Holiday on May 26th!!!!

Still raining here in Farnborough, so final figures to come, but so far looks like 15mm in 11 hours.
On May 26th we had an 11.8 mm in an estimated 13 hours of rain.

When my friends and colleagues say "it always rains on a Bank Holiday", I try and point out that it's all down to statistics - win some, lose some. But with these two Bank Holidays, they will have some ammunition!

Greg,

Very wet further to the SE of you, up to 09hrs 26th my 24hr total was 37.9mm with a further 2.5mm up to 09hrs 27th so a 48hr total of 40.4mm. The 25th was my second wettest August day on record behind 19/8/2007 when I recorded 41.2mm.
I see Herstmonceux recorded 34mm up 1800hrs on 25th.

In total, my 48 hour rainfall was 29.4mm, so a bit drier than you, Richard. Total for August so far is 69.2mm.

6 out of 8 months this year have been wetter than average (only March and July drier). August is also the first month since Nov 2013 to have a below average temperature (which will almost certainly be the case).

Looks like a change next week, though - warmer and drier.
