West Cornwall - Convergence cloudburst.

Postby Graham Easterling » 2014 Nov 16, 15:41

Deep blue sky and strong (for November!) sunshine around the middle of the day, in slack very unstable air, led to some sea breeze convergence. Rare in November, but early afternoon the wind was generally NE along the north coast, E-SE along the south.

This led to some very rapid Cb development. The attached photos were both taken at the same time (14:30) from Penzance harbour. One looking NE towards the convergence zone (that Cb simply was not in existence 40 minutes earlier) and the other ESE across the Bay towards Marazion. Quite a difference, an unstable looking but benign sky over the sea.

15 minutes later there was torrential rain as the shower drifted WSW and clipped Penzance.
