Intense rain Aug 26th

Postby greg_gruner » 2015 Aug 26, 20:37

A narrow but intense band of rain stretching from Southampton to London crossed Farnborough just after noon. Several loud claps of thunder were heard and I measured 32.1mm, most of this falling in 1.5 hours. It caused some local flooding of roads (and this was true for London too as shown on the BBC news website).
This puts the August rainfall at 95mm, nearly double the average.

Not quite that much here, a bit to your west and north - 14 mm in just over an hour, but an intense burst at 1045z reached 90 mm/h, the highest of the summer thus far and the equal second-highest of 2015 (120 mm/h at 1646z on 1 March). No thunder heard here.
