Similar here in Ireland. I've just had a look at data at most of the synoptic stations and April has been cooler at all stations, generally about 1.5C cooler.

With me the difference is smaller at 0.9C
March 9.0C
April 8.1C

April in both 2000 & 2001 were colder with 7.2C and 8.0C respectively.

Here in Shropshire, mean temp for April was 1.3deg below March.

Rainfall was 157.5mm and had several distinctions:
1) It passed the 300% mark (311%).
2) It was the wettest April by far, data from 1903. The previous record was 2000 with 121.0mm.
3) Although nowhere near the 2 outstanding months Aug 1999 and Jun 2007, it was the 7th wettest month in the 109 years.
Edgmond, Nr Newport Shropshire. N Shropshire Plain, rain shadow of the Welsh hills, sheltered from all snow directions, exposed to Cheshire Gap showers, otherwise similar to rest of inland England.

At Dorchester (south Dorset) five Aprils have been colder (mean temperature) than the preceding March in the past 50 years:

2012 Mar 8.95C Apr 8.02C (-0.93C)
1998 Mar 8.31C Apr 8.00C (-0.31C)
1990 Mar 8.40C Apr 8.25C (-0.15C)
1989 Mar 7.97C Apr 7.05C (-0.92C)
1977 Mar 7.57C Apr 7.56C (-0.01C)

It was the coldest April since 1989.

Hi Len,

A little more detail on March/April 1998 in Dorchester:

Mean Max/Mean Min/Overall Mean March: 11.73C/4.88C/Mean 8.31C
Mean Max/Mean Min/Overall Mean April: 11.87C/4.13C/Mean 8.00C
The mean max temp in April was 0.14C warmer than in March but this positive anomaly was more than offset by the 0.75C negative anomaly in the mean minimum temp to give an overall mean in April 0.31C below that of March.

The extreme highest and lowest day max in March was 16.9C/8.7C compared to 15.0C/6.1C in April.
The extreme highest and lowest night min in March was 10.2C/-2.1C compared to 9.5C/-1.6C in April.
