17th - Penzance - Sunny Spells, windy

Postby Graham Easterling » 2012 May 17, 18:40

Just 0.9mm of rain early this morning, but completely dry since 10:00 BST, despite some brightish echoes on the radar around 11:00. Some attractive Ac cas to the south at the time.

Sunny spells this afternoon, but with a very blustery east wind, limiting the temperature rise. Max 14.8C. Gust to 34mph at my site, mean speed reached 34mph at Land's End early afternoon. Gusts to around 50mph at Culdrose. With the surface now dry, the sandy soils have been blowing around rather.

Still no surf, but looking much more hopeful for the middle of next week. http://magicseaweed.com/Sennen-Surf-Report/4/ . Low over mid Atlantic with slack or offshore winds on the north coast.

No sunshine here Graham, though it was bright at times the sunshine recorder didn't register anything.

Beautiful clouds today, very interesting and unusual.

Still, it hasn't been that bad lately, there's been plenty of sunshine over the last few days, and the weekend just gone was glorious. Sunshine for this month now stands at 97 hours (1st - 16th). And it's been quite dry too with no appreciable rainfall since the 10th. Monthly total at 41 mm.

Very high UV yesterday, I recorded 8.2, that was 2 up on the previous, sunny day. Solar radiation was also high yesterday, with a max of 1123 W/m². And despite the cloud cover today, UV still made 4.8. Many sunburnt faces around, and my flourescent jacket was especially bright whilst working onsite this afternoon!

Clouds now clearing from the south, though too late for any sunshine.

(20:45), 11.3°C, RH 72%, DP 6.4°C, 1008 hPa (Falling slowly), Wind calm.
