20th Windy, but no cooler

Postby Graham Easterling » 2013 Jul 20, 12:28

At around 13:00 there was a F4-5 ESE wind, gusting > 40 mph on the sea front, (yes - what weather presenters now call gale force gusts, and the rest of us call blustery). Despite these along/onshore conditions the temperature was 24.1C, much the same as most recent days at that time, with strong unbroken sunshine. Perfect wind surfing weather, the SST where the wind's onshore around 20C.

Some very choppy sea conditions, but as for > a week now (yesterday - 19th:- http://www.sennen-cove.com/19july13.htm ) no proper swell.

Today is very different to the frequent near calm conditions which have dominated this hot spell http://www.cornwallcam.co.uk/

UPDATE:- Bizarely the MetO are currently forecasting no gusts for Penzance, or indeed for Culdrose! http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weat ... ab=fiveDay where there have been gusts to 50mph! and mean speeds of F6.

With the SST now 19C in the SW approaches, some of the buoys are reporting unusually high temperatures. 20C at Sevenstones off Land's End, 19C at 62023 south of Ireland.
