21st West Cornwall - Mist for some but . .

Mist for some . . . not for others.

Weather forecasters use the overgeneralised 'always mistier on western coasts & hills' cliche rather a lot, including the last couple of days, and will no doubt continue to do so. It can be very misleading, especially used in the context of tomorrows conditions, when as far as the SW is concerned, I suspect the 'west' facing north coast will be relatively favoured.

In practice, even in todays very moist SWesterly, all that's often needed is a little bit of descent. So today both St Ives (where the air descends off the Penwith moors) and Penzance (where the air descends from above Newlyn) have seen some warm sunny spells, sometimes with a simultaneous damping of drizzle (mizzle). Max of 20.3C so far today in Penzance, and >19C even on top of the Island St Ives. The dew point has been 17-18C so it's felt very muggy.

Attached pics taken arouund 11:30 show people enjoying the sun outside the Sloop, St Ives, and in the sun on east facing Porthgwidden beach, with the fog covered Godrevy in the background. Many spots facing into the very gentle wind have held onto fog. Webcams are far better than generalised forecasts when it comes to local coastal conditions.

Yesterday was sunny across most of west Cornwall, most of the very limited low cloud restricted to hill tops, a lovely quiet warm day for a swim.(18.1C in Penzance). I suspect that tomorrow will be duller, esp in Penzance, with the wind backing SE.
