West Cornwall - F9 & the wettest day of 2014

Postby Graham Easterling » 2014 Feb 28, 09:23

This time only Scilly at the tip of Cornwall. Culdrose peaked at F7 and basically no strong winds east of Truro, but head a little west

St Ives
Max Gust 83mph

Land's End
Max Gust 75mph
Max Mean 58mph @ 7:50
(12th day in February the wind has exceeded 60mph!)

St Mary's
Peaked at F9 with gusts >70mph

Last nights gale was stronger in Penzance than anything in 2009, 2010, 2011 or 2012. All very localised of course. Still gusting to around 50mph, but the sun's out. Tree down across the main Penzance - S Just road.

Last night's rain also means it's now the wettest winter I've recorded, but well short of the 3 month total for Oct, Nov, Dec '02, which was a staggering 723.5mm.

Also, a bit surprising for such a late developing and small (in area) low, the swell once again exceeded 30' at Sevenstones.

Another eventful night - weatherwise
Graham
