28th Feb 2014 - Coldest Day of the Month

The winter finished on a relatively cold day with a maximum of 8.2°C making it the coldest day of the month and the 7th coldest day maximum of the whole winter.

As with many recent days, it was another bright day with plenty of sunshine bringing the monthly sunshine total to a very respectable 113.1 hours. This has been the sunniest February since 2008 (135.4 hours).

Feb 2014:
Mean minimum = 4.3°C
Mean maximum = 10.6°C
Mean = 7.4°C
Rainfall = 155.7 mm.

Location: Rural riverside valley location near the village of Newton Poppleford and 2 km from the sea.

In Dorchester it was also the coldest day of the month and even with a maximum temperature of 7.4C there have only been six colder days during the winter period.

February:
Mean max temp: 10.00C - highest since 2008 (10.13C)
Mean min temp: 4.13C - highest since 2011 (4.31C)
Mean temp: 7.07C - highest since 2011 (7.10C)
Rainfall: 172.7mm - wettest since 1990 (188.2mm) and 210% of av.

Season Rainfall: 638.4mm - wettest in >120years and 206% of av.

In Southend the maximum temperature of 28th Feb was 6.6°C, making it the coldest day of February. The minimum temperature of 2.6°C was also the month's lowest.
