Fog, April 30th

Postby greg_gruner » 2014 Apr 30, 11:49

Some thick fog early this morning in Farnborough (c 300m vis.) but the sun was already visible through it at 0810 BST, and it had completely gone by 0930 BST. So not a day of fog, as it would have had to last until 1000 BST (0900 GMT) to count.

As an aside, I have always thought that counting a day of fog by the 0900 observation only is a bit limiting, as it excludes many days of fog in spring and autumn when the day length is longer and the fog has cleared by 0900...

There was still fog here at 0900 GMT and this made it the latest date, in a 25 year record, for fog to be reported so late in the season.
The previous latest date was 23 April in 2009.
