1st - 7th November 2015 - High Minimum Temperatures

Postby Nick Gardner » 2015 Nov 07, 12:19

Last night's minimum occurred at 22:55 with 12.4°C under clear, starry skies with a slight breeze. Unusual in itself given the conditions, time of year and location. Then the temperature rose to reach 13.8°C at midnight, peaking with a remarkably high 15.2°C at 04:00!

More like a warm summer's night minimum than November.

My highest minimum (09h-09h) so far this month was 14.1C on the 5th.

The highest November minimum that I have recorded during the last 10 years was 14.8C on the 5th November 2010.

The mean minimum temperature for this month so far is now at 11.0°C, that is around 5°C above my very estimated LTA for this period. A complete reversal of the cool/cold nights that have dominated most of this year.

Very unusual start to November here in Farnborough:

Days 1-11:
Mean max: 14.3C
Mean min: 10.3C
Mean: 12.3C (this 1.2C greater than the LTA for October!)

Rainfall is only 14.7mm (20% of the LTA for the month).

Also remarkable is the lack of sunshine. I don't have a sunshine recorder, but Reading University has only logged 1.2 hours in the 11 days!

This is what happens with a constant flow of Tropical Maritime air. I know that further north it has been much wetter.

With a screen minimum of +14.4c on day 10, I have had the mildest November night temp in my records.

The previous mildest overnight November temp was +13.5c in 2005.

My station record for the Absolute Maximum for November is +17.7c attained in 2010, and that was just before one of the harshest winters in years.

A screen maximum on the 10th of +17.4c, making this my second warmest November day for this station.
